Originally today I was going to make sure the plumbers (once they arrived)knew exactly what to do and off I'd go on my merry way for a Kramer visit leaving them to do what they get paid highly to do. But of course, we know that couldn't happen. I do understand because our house is old that it can present challenges to anyone who tries to change/update its structure and so presenting plumbers, electricians, etc. with a myriad of problems not found when working on new, cookie-cutter style houses. Ours seems to have been built with hurricane, tornadoes and nuclear fallout in mind. Which is definitely a good thing; it's a well built freaky strong house. It just gives a lot of headaches to those who wish to intrude upon it's inner core. So in order to give support to this mornings intruders(the plumbers)and not leave every decision that had to made along the way to my husband, I stayed at home for the 5 hrs it took to "git 'er done".
What the plumbers (they are truly worth their high wages, by the way)had to do was take out the old water heater and install a new one. BUT, we wanted the new one pushed back in the corner of the utility room (space would be a more appropriate description as room sounds well, too "roomy")giving more room for the new dryer.
Under the paver stone is a hole where once sat a commode; a commode for "the help". When Frank & I first purchased the house, we had it taken out immediately as it represented what was wrong with our society back then (our house is around 80 yrs old).
Johnny arrived and assessed the situation of how to make the new w.heater fit closer to the wall(notice hacksaw in his hand)and off he and Larry went.
New water heater unboxed and installed!
Now it's time to set up for the dryer. First they removed an old useless gas line that took up precious space and also a water drainage line that ran along the top of the wall (that was weird). Then Johnny measured and cut the hole for the dryer vent. he had to cut through two walls(did I mention the house was built with hurricanes in mind?). Before:

...and then Johnny crawled under the house to close up and fill (once for all)the hole where the commode once sat. Notice in the picture it's now full of concrete-yea!!!
So all that's left is attaching the wiring to the back of the new dryer:

Then slide it over to it's spot and hook it up and plug it in!
I'm gonna love this!!!
